Moore Public Schools – Highland West Jr. High School Gymnasium
º£½ÇÉçÇø has completed a number of projects for Moore Public Schools, one of Oklahoma’s largest school districts, including the addition of a new gymnasium and storm shelter to the existing Highland West Jr. High School. The new, single-story, 25,700 SF addition project was completed in 12 months. Construction was scheduled to maximize use of the summer off-months, completed in time for the start of the school year.
The full-size competition gymnasium with retractable bleachers, concessions and restrooms, is constructed of a brick veneer with drilled piers and a slab-on-grade foundation system. The new addition also includes a cast-in-place concrete, FEMA-rated storm shelter that houses girls’ and boys’ basketball locker rooms, volleyball locker rooms, coaches’ offices and storage. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing of the storm shelter are separate and independent of the rest of the building in case of a storm-related emergency.
